Canyon Arts & Creek Camp

2023 COVID-19 Policies and Procedures:

Updated February 25th, 2023

PLEASE NOTE: Canyon Camp will follow all safety guidelines as defined by the State of California Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools. As public guidance evolves, so might the things in this guide. We will continue to evaluate current health conditions, and make modifications to our program as needed.

Before Camp

REFUND POLICY At this time, all summer sessions will remain on schedule and operate in accordance with CDC and public health guidlines.

  • Parents may cancel any session by May 30th, 2023 to receive a full refund in the original method paid. Please allow 5-10 business days for your refund to be processed. Cancellations made after May 30th will be refunded minus a $50 per week/per child late cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made the week of camp (the Sunday before camp starts) will receive no refund.
  • In the event that sessions are cancelled as a result of a change in public health guidance that precludes the Canyon Camp from operating camp safely, parents will be fully refunded for their cancelled session(s).
  • To cancel or modify enrollment, please email Colette Blair at canyonartscamp@gmail.com. Please include your name, the name of your child(ren), and identify the weeks you wish to be refunded.

HOME HEALTH SCREENING Prior drop-off at camp, we request that parents screen their children for symptoms of Coronavirus on a daily basis. A full list of symptoms can be found here on the CDC website. If your child is exhibiting symptoms, has been in close contact with someone that has COVID-19 (or is displaying symptoms), they will be advised to home isolate and follow procedures below for WHEN SOMEONE GETS SICK.

WHAT TO BRING Canyon Camp will provide a morning and afternoon snack to campers on a daily basis. Each camper will need to bring a sack lunch from home and a labeled water bottle. As always, we recommend sending kids with a change of clothing and water shoes to encourage creek play.

FACE COVERINGS Canyon Camp encourages the use of face coverings as a strategy to provide protection against more contagious strains of coronavirus. In accordance with California’s Guidance for the use of Face Masks, we expect that face coverings will remain optional for staff and campers in all settings during the 2023 camp season. It is possible that public health guidance will change over the coming months. Canyon Camp will adhere to the most up-to-date guidance from CDPH regarding the use of masks in childcare settings.

WHAT NOT TO BRING In consideration with the health and safety of our staff and participants we are asking that campers leave personal items at home. Examples of personal items include: toys including but not limited to stuffed animals, action figures, pokemon cards, tablets or electronics, etc.

Arriving at Camp

CHECK IN PROCEDURES Camp hours are 9am-3pm daily. Parents/caregivers can drop campers off in the morning anytime between 8:45am and 9:15am, and pick up anytime between 2:45pm and 3:15pm.

If a camper needs to arrive or depart from camp due to an appointment, parents will need to notify us in advance to make special arrangements to pick up/drop off.

Camp Day

PHYSICAL DISTANCING  Given the other safety parameters in place (vaccinated staff, sanitation procedures, etc.) there will not be any specific social distancing or cohort requirements in place at this time. Instead, campers will be encouraged to regularly wash their hands and respect each other’s personal space.

HANDWASHING & SANITIZATION Staff and campers will wash hands with soap and water, or use alcohol based hand sanitizer before and after eating, drinking, touching eyes/nose/mouth, toileting, and physical contact with each other. Any shared camp equipment and supplies will be cleaned and sanitized daily.

EXTENDED CARE Canyon Camp will offer Before Care and After Care daily from 8am-9am and 3pm-5pm. Extended care is provided on a drop-in basis for an additional fee of $10 per hour/per child. Pre-registration is not required for Before or After Care. Weekly hours attended will be billed separately through PayPal invoicing and will be due the following Friday (one week after camp ends). If your child is attending multiple weeks of extended care, and you would like to be invoiced at the end of the summer, please let us know in advance by reaching out to Colette at canyonartscamp@gmail.com.

WHEN SOMEONE GETS SICK Campers who have symptoms of infectious illness, such as influenza (flu) or COVID-19, should stay home and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care, regardless of vaccination status. Staying home when sick with COVID-19 is essential to keep COVID-19 infections out of camp and prevent spread to others. Campers who have confirmed or suspected COVID-19 or are showing symptoms need to undergo isolation for a minimum of 5 full days. Please contact the camp Director immediately if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, has tested positive or has had close contact with an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19. Canyon Camp will assess the specific circumstances of the symptomatic/exposed/or positive case and use the Contra Costa Health Services K-12 Guidelines for Exposure and Quarantine. to determine steps to prevent spreading COVID-19.

VACCINES AND UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS Throughout the summer, Canyon Camp will continue to implement COVID-19 safety protocols, and use universal precautions to help keep our camp community safe and healthy. Although campers are not required to be fully vaccinated by the start date of camp, we highly recommend all campers get vaccinated to protect themselves and everyone in our community as soon as they are eligible. All camp staff will be required to be fully vaccinated, according to the CDC definition of fully vaccinated, prior to the start of camp.
